Principal Investigator

Dr. James Whalen is a Principal Investigator at Finger Lakes Clinical Research, part of Evolution Research Group (ERG) in Rochester New York. Dr. Whalen is a graduate of Brown University Medical School, where he completed his medical and Psychiatric Residency training in 1989. He subsequently completed his fellowship training in Forensic Psychiatry at Harvard University, and practiced outpatient Psychiatry in both private and community health care settings for many years. Licensed in several states, Dr. Whalen has continued to provide both outpatient and inpatient psychiatric services to patients in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire – particularly during the extraordinary circumstances of the pandemic Covid – 19. Since 1994, Dr. Whalen has been active in Clinical Research Trials completing almost two hundred studies in his twenty-five-year career. In addition, he has directed course work in Forensic Psychiatry, Clinical Interviewing Techniques while providing Psychiatry supervision to residents and medical students at Brown University as an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Human Behavior. He is a Forensic Psychiatry Consultant to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Providence Rhode Island, with expertise in psychological autopsy and criminal behavioral analysis. He continues to provide educational support to The Faculty of Capacity Development (FCD) based in Dublin, Ireland where he serves as Medical Director. Dr. James Whalen is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association (DFAPA) a member of the Rhode Island Psychiatric Society, and an International Associate of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in London, England.
